Intercessory Notes - Zambia & Uganda
Sustained prayer covering is the key to our effectiveness and continued safety. Africa is a dangerous place. Poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and un-enforced road rules make a toxic mixture. Inadequate medical facilities mean there is no safe backup in the case of accident or sickness. In addition, the enemy is not happy about what we are doing. It is only the prayer covering provided by faithful friends at home that ensures our protection from his strategies. Zambia and Uganda are countries with many needs. There are many unknowns along the way. Your prayers are particularly important for our protection and spiritual authority. General Issues for the whole trip: · Praise God for the provision of all the resources needed for this ministry trip to Zambia and Uganda. · Traveling blessings. That flights, connections, people contacts etc will flow according to plan. · For our personal safety and that of our baggage. · That the Lord will protect us and the members of our team and give us the strength and grace to cope with sometimes very demanding situations. We need physical and spiritual stamina. · Protection of our families at home that the Lord will protect and guide them. · Protection of our homes. · It is our desire to leave heart-prints of the Spirit – the fragrance of Jesus - everywhere we go and with everyone we meet. Only Jesus can do that. · Please Note: A more detailed Intercessory Briefing is available for our ministry in Zambia in this year. If you would like a copy, please contact us and we will send it to you. The Team: Leaders: Gavin and Glenda Williams Infrastructure projects: Peter & Margaret Barritt, Craig & Alison Lambert and son John. Medical work: Barbara Burns
Day by Day: Thursday 29th April: Today is departure for Glenda & Gavin. Due to airline schedules, we have to fly out today and spend the next 24hours in Bangkok. But every cloud has a silver lining. We get to have a 24 hour recovery after the challenges of getting away and before the demands of the work ahead. Friday 30th April: While Gavin and Glenda enjoy their day off in Bangkok, the rest of the team begins their journey. Half of the team departs at 9.45am on a flight to South Africa where they have overnight accommodation. The Barritts depart at 5.00pm travelling via Bangkok and Nairobi. We will join them prior to departure from Bangkok. Saturday 1st May: After an overnight flight, our part of the team will arrive in Ndola at 10.45am. Hopefully we can get some shopping for supplies done before the balance of the team arrive from Johannesburg at 12.15pm. Then it is out to Fiwale Hill to settle into our accommodation. Hopefully we will be awake enough to do a walk around the Mission Station to familiarize them with their environment. Sunday 2nd: Today we will be visiting a local church in one of the villages. This will be the first experience of African life for most of the team. They will get to try Zambian food and hospitality for the first time. Hopefully we will get back in time for an afternoon rest. Monday 3rd: Today we get down to sorting out the projects that await us. First step will be to decide what projects we will attack first. Then we hope to go to the city of Ndola to purchase the required materials. This can be very frustrating as we face the challenge of having to visit numerous stores in an attempt to purchase our requirements. Tuesday 4th: For the team it is down to work on the selected project, probably re-plumbing the ablution block. The ladies will probably find themselves on the end of a paint brush. Gavin will spend part of the day in consultations with local leaders. Wednesday 5th to Saturday 8th: While the team continues with their projects, Gavin and Glenda will head south to the Malambanyama region with Rev Lydon Pensulu, the Director of Ministries for the Northern Baptist Association of Zambia. We have a two day conference for pastors and leaders in this part of the NBAZ area. Please pray for us as we have not been to this part of the NBAZ area before and so have no idea what to expect. We expect to be back at Fiwale Hill by Saturday afternoon. Sunday 9th: Today we will visit one or two churches around Fiwale Hill area. This could be Peter and Craig’s first experience of preaching in Africa and with a translator. Monday 10th to Friday 14th: For the infrastructure team, it is back to work attempting to get on top of the mountain of maintenance work required around the Mission, Bible School and Clinic. One of the projects is to build a tank stand and install an auxiliary water supply for the guest house where we stay. For Gavin and Glenda, this will be a pivotal week of ministry. Throughout this week we need your prayers for wisdom, anointing and spiritual authority. There is much resting on this week. During Monday members of the Executive Committee and Ministry Team of the NBAZ will assemble at Fiwale Hill. Gavin is scheduled to commence a prayer retreat with these men and women on Monday night. Relationships strengthened during this time are critical. Tuesday 11th: Today Gavin and Glenda will facilitate a day of prayer for the Executive and Ministry Team. Prayer is not a strong point of the Lamba Church and leading these leaders through a day long prayer time will require the Lord’s wisdom and guidance. Wednesday 12th: During today the Executive and Ministry Team will be involved in organizational meetings. It will be an opportunity for Gavin to reconnect with the projects and encourage the rest of the team. It will also be a time of preparation for the ministry of the rest of the week. During the day, pastors from the churches will gather in preparation for the commencement of their conference in the evening. Gavin will be speaking at the opening meeting. Thursday 13th: This will be a full day of ministry. Gavin will speak at three sessions of the pastors’ conference. During the day, many other people from the churches will arrive to commence the Annual General Meeting of the NBAZ. Gavin is the key note speaker for the AGM. The first meeting will be on Thursday night. We expect to be praying for people until late into the night. It will be a big day and we will need supernatural strength. Gavin’s theme for the AGM ministry is “How do we invite, prepare for and welcome a fresh move of the Holy Spirit?” Friday 14th: Today Gavin will bring his second message to the AGM at 9.00am. The remainder of the day will be given over to Association business meetings. We do not expect to be involved in this unless specifically invited to address the assembly in relationship to our ministry among them. In the evening Gavin will speak again and we will certainly be praying for people until well into the night. Saturday 15th: Could this be a day off? Hopefully! The people will return to their homes and we should have opportunity to regroup a little. Perhaps we can take the team somewhere a little different to see a bit more of the Copperbelt region of Uganda. Whatever happens, we will all need a day off. Sunday 16th: Again we expect to be ministering in village churches. Monday 17th: We are into our last few days on the job. Experience tells us that by now the list of things to be completed before we depart is growing impossibly as people realize that we will soon be gone. For Gavin, much of his time will be taken up in discussions with Association leaders. Tuesday 18th: More of the same as yesterday. For those who came via South Africa, this is their last day. Final challenges, packing and good byes are the order of the day. Wednesday 19th: The Lamberts and Barbara Burns leave today. They have booked some sightseeing in South Africa and will return to Australia over the weekend. For the Barritts and Williams’ it is final bits and pieces, pack up and ready for departure tomorrow. Thursday 20th: Today is departure for the remainder of the team. Our flight to Nairobi leaves at 11.35am and takes four hours to reach its destination via Lubumbashi. In Nairobi we say good bye to the Barritts’ who have a couple of days with friends in Nairobi before heading home to Australia over the weekend. For Gavin and Glenda there is a flight to Entebbe, Uganda. Friday 21st: A day of rest beside Lake Victoria. We will need it. We collect our vehicle and attend to various bits and pieces, but mostly rest. Colleague Pastor Brian Hine is due to arrive via Dubai at approximately 1.00pm. Saturday 22nd: Following some shopping in Kampala we will commence the 6 hour drive to Mbarara. Will the roads be better or worse than our last trip? Surely they could not be any worse. And at the end of the journey we will be reunited with our dear African friends – The Tayebwa family Sunday 23rd: We will be ministering in one of the King of Kings churches today. After church it will be great to spend some time with the Tayebwa family and catch up on all that has been happening since we left in February. Monday 24th to Friday 28th: SALT Mbarara Phase 6. Our SALT School students from the South West of Uganda gather for their final week of training. Friday is graduation day so their final work must be assessed and everything prepared for their graduation. Diplomas must be printed and laminated, catering arranged and all the other details put into place. It will be a big week. Friday 28th: Graduation Day: Who can describe the excitement of graduation day? Forty students capped and gowned, excited friends and relatives dressed in their very best, dignitaries making interminable speeches and finally the presentation of Diplomas and certificates. Of course the most important person of the day is the ‘cameraman’ as photographers are known in Uganda. And of course there must be a feast – normal fare made special by the presence of chicken on the menu and a bottle of soft drink. It will be a day to go down in memories for a lifetime. Saturday 29th: A day of rest? Perhaps! But this could easily be a day visit to the Tayebwa’s village or some other significant venue in the area. But it will be a change of pace anyway. Sunday 30th: A day in the churches. Gavin will be preaching at King of Kings. Brian will probably go to the village church of one of our students or graduates. Monday 31th to Friday 4th June: SALT III in Ishaka. Our SALT School in Ishaka is already in its third phase. Last time we had 51 students and we hope that most of them will return for the continuation of their studies. Being at the end of a busy tour, this is always a challenging school for us and other staff. While the morning drive from Mbarara is not hard, it does add an extra hour to the beginning and end of the day. Please pray for safety on the road and effectiveness in the ministry. Saturday 5th: It is probable that we will have a Day of Introduction for SALT School to brief potential students for the commencement of the next SALT School in September. Following the introduction we will immediately commence our journey to Kampala. Sunday 6th: We will be ministering in churches in Kampala. Brian will attend the wedding of a friend in Kampala. Monday 7th: Details of today are not fixed but we may be heading into a new area to meet with leaders who are interested in having a SALT School for leaders in their region. By the end of the day we need to be in Entebbe for the overnight stay prior to departure Tuesday 8th: Departure day. Gavin and Glenda will fly to Nairobi and then to Bangkok while Brian returns home via Addis Ababa. This is a long journey that spans two nights. Thursday 10th: Our flight for Australia arrives at 5.30am. A trip home and some rest before we try and catch up on family over the weekend. Thanks for praying
